The inventory on Literature contains works of historical fiction written by a Scandinavian author between 1770 and 1919. Historical fiction here refers to historical novels, history plays, and longer works of poetry (epic poems and poem cycles) that thematize an episode or one or more persons from Danish, Norwegian, Swedish, or shared Scandinavian history. Individual poems and poetry collections have not been included, with the exception of works with an exceptional inspirational and intermedial impact, such as Oehlenschläger’s Digte 1803 or Geijer’s poems in the first issue of Iduna.
Historical accuracy was no criterion used in the selection process. The list accordingly features books and plays with an entirely fictional storyline that only earned the label ‘historical’ owing to the inclusion of one or more historical characters.
